Target Information

RUNX2 is a nuclear protein and a member of the RUNX family of transcription factors with a Runt DNA-binding domain. It is essential for membranous and endochondral bone formation, regulating osteoblastic differentiation and skeletal morphogenesis. RUNX2 acts as a scaffold for nucleic acids and regulatory factors involved in skeletal gene expression, binds DNA as a monomer or heterodimer, and increases TGFBR1 expression by osteoblasts. It cooperates with DLX5 or related factors to activate osteoblast-specific genes. Mutations in RUNX2 can lead to bone development disorders such as cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD).
