Target Information
The serum amyloid A (SAA) family comprises several differentially expressed apolipoproteins, including acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2, with SAA1 being the major plasma component. Although the liver is the primary synthesis site, extrahepatic production has also been reported. In vivo concentrations can increase up to 1000-fold during inflammation. SAA has been recognized as an important biomarker for diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases, often rising earlier and more sharply than CRP. Recent research suggests broader roles in SAA expression and function.
