Target Information
A platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF), also known as thymidine phosphorylase (TP) or gliostatin. In the presence of inorganic orthophosphate, it catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate. It acts as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and is a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets. TYMP is also involved in the transformation of fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment, into active cytotoxic metabolites.
