Target Information
The CD204 (MSR1) gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, including three isoforms (types 1, 2, and 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in various physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
- Type 1 and 2: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs.
- Type 3: Does not internalize modified LDL due to altered intracellular processing; retained in the endoplasmic reticulum.
- Regulatory role: Type 3 isoform can inhibit types 1 and 2, suggesting a dominant-negative regulatory mechanism.
