BRCA1 (breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility protein 1)
BRCA1은 핵 인산화 단백질로, 유전체 안정성을 유지하는 데 중요한 역할을 하며 종양 억제 단백질, DNA 손상 감지 단백질, 신호 전달 단백질과 함께 BASC(BRCA1-associated genome surveillance complex)를 형성합니다.
이 단백질은 RNA polymerase II 및 histone deacetylase complex와 상호작용하여 전사 조절, 이중 가닥 DNA 손상 복구, 재조합 과정에 관여합니다.
BRCA1 유전자의 돌연변이는 약 40%의 유전성 유방암과 80% 이상의 유전성 유방·난소암의 원인으로 알려져 있습니다. 또한, 다양한 alternative splicing 변이체가 존재하며, 일부는 질병 관련 변이로 보고되었습니다. 동일 염색체(17번)에 관련된 유사유전자(pseudogene)도 확인되어 있습니다.
