Kynurenine aminotransferases (KAT I, KAT II, KAT III)는 class-I pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase 계열에 속합니다.
KAT I는 글루타민 대사에 관여하는 세포질 단백질로, L-kinurenine의 전이 반응을 촉매하여 신경 보호 및 항경련 작용을 하는 대사산물인 kynurenic acid를 형성합니다.
이 대사산물은 시냅스 전달에 관여하며, 조현병 및 헌팅턴병 등 다양한 신경 질환과 관련이 있습니다.
또한 KAT I는 cysteine 결합체 대사에도 작용하여 반응성 대사체를 생성할 수 있습니다.
KAT I는 세 가지 isoform을 가지며, isoform 1은 full-length 단백질, isoform 2는 아미노산 68–117이 결손, isoform 3은 251–422가 결손된 형태입니다.
서열 유사성에 기반할 때, KAT I는 homodimer로 기능하는 것으로 추정됩니다.
