Target Information
Dynamins are a family of 100 kDa GTPases transcribed from at least three separate genes, each with multiple mRNA splice variants. They contain conserved regions including:
- Amino-terminal GTPase domain
- Centrally located membrane-binding pleckstrin homology domain (PHD)
- Coiled-coil region preceding a proline-rich domain (PRD)
The PRD mediates interactions between dynamin and other cellular proteins.
- Dynamin I: Expressed exclusively in neurons
- Dynamin II: Ubiquitously expressed
- Dynamin III: Expressed mainly in brain, testis, heart, and lung
Dynamins participate in clathrin-mediated and fluid-phase endocytosis.
