Target Information
WW domain-containing proteins are found in all eukaryotes and play important roles in regulating various cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing.
This gene encodes a protein containing two WW domains and a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase domain (SRD).
Highest expression is observed in hormonally regulated tissues including testis, ovary, and prostate, suggesting a role in steroid metabolism.
The encoded protein shares over 90% identity with the mouse ortholog, an essential mediator of TNF-alpha-induced apoptosis, implying a similar apoptotic role in humans.
Additionally, this gene may function as a tumor growth suppressor. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
