MAP3K8 (COT)은 세린/트레오닌 키나아제로, MAP 및 JNK 키나아제 경로를 모두 활성화할 수 있으며 세포 주기 조절에 관여합니다. MAPK 신호전달 경로에는 MAPK(ERK), MAPK kinase(MEK), MAPK kinase kinase(MEKK)가 포함됩니다. MEKK8은 NF-kappa-B1/p105의 프로테아좀 매개 분해를 자극하여 NF-kappa-B1을 활성화할 수 있습니다. 이 단백질은 여러 정상 조직과 종양 유래 세포주에서 발현되며, 58 kDa 형태는 세포 주기의 S 및 G2/M 단계에서 특히 활성화됩니다. 긴 형태는 주로 Ser 잔기에서, 짧은 형태는 Ser 및 Thr 잔기 모두에서 인산화됩니다.
