Target Information

This gene encodes a DNA-binding protein with high specificity for scaffold or matrix attachment region (S/MAR) DNA elements. It is thought to anchor chromatin loops to the nuclear matrix. Scaffold attachment factors are a subset of nuclear matrix proteins that bind specifically to S/MAR. The encoded protein may serve as a molecular base for assembling a transcriptosome complex near actively transcribed genes. It is involved in regulating heat shock protein 27 transcription, can act as an estrogen receptor co-repressor, and is a candidate for breast tumorigenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
