Target Information

RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. This kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays an essential role in cell proliferation regulated by growth factors, as well as pathways involving cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair.
p70 S6 kinase acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, targeting the S6 ribosomal protein to upregulate protein synthesis. Increased activity of p70 S6 kinase leads to enhanced protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
