Target Information
ATF3 (Activating Transcription Factor 3) is a member of the mammalian activation transcription factor/cAMP responsive element-binding (CREB) protein family. It encodes a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 22 kDa and generally represses transcription from promoters with ATF binding elements.
An alternatively spliced variant (ATF3 delta Zip) lacks the leucine zipper domain, does not bind DNA, and can stimulate transcription by sequestering inhibitory cofactors. Alternative splicing of the ATF3 gene may play an important role in gene regulation. Three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified.
