Target Information
SYNPO (Synaptopodin) is an actin-associated protein located in telencephalic dendrites and renal podocytes. It is tightly associated with the dendritic spine apparatus, and mice lacking the SYNPO gene lack this apparatus. These SYNPO-deficient mice exhibit impaired long-term potentiation and deficits in spatial memory tasks, suggesting that SYNPO plays a key role in synaptic plasticity regulation. Recent studies also indicate that SYNPO is linked to neuronal calcium stores and contributes to calcium store-associated neuronal plasticity.
