Target Information
Ran is a small signaling GTPase involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport. It also functions in spindle aster formation and nuclear envelope reassembly during mitosis. Unlike Ras or Rho, Ran is not membrane-associated. The localization of RanGTP and RanGDP is regulated by accessory proteins such as RanGAP and RCC1. Mammalian RanGAP binds to the nuclear pore via SUMOylation of its C-terminus, which interacts with nucleoporin Nup358.
