Glutamate dehydrogenase (GluD1)는 미토콘드리아 매트릭스 효소로, 글루타메이트를 α-케토글루타르산과 암모니아로 산화적 탈아민화하는 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 효소는 아미노산 유도 인슐린 분비 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, ADP에 의해 활성화되고 GTP 및 ATP에 의해 억제됩니다.
이 유전자의 활성화 돌연변이는 선천성 고인슐린혈증의 일반적인 원인입니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사 변이체가 생성되며, 인간 X 염색체의 관련 유전자 Glutamate dehydrogenase 2는 이 유전자로부터 역전사로 유래하여 용해성 형태의 효소를 암호화합니다. 관련된 유사 유전자는 염색체 10, 18, X에서 확인되었습니다.
