Product Specific Information
The 90 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD38 molecule (~42 kDa type II transmembrane protein). CD38 is expressed at increasing levels during B-cell differentiation and down-regulated on germinal center B cells and mature plasma cells. It is also expressed on subsets of thymocytes, mature T cells, and NK cells.
Crosslinking of CD38 on mature B cells induces proliferation, enhanced by IL-4 and LPS. CD38 acts as a counter-receptor for CD31 and functions as an ectoenzyme with cyclase and hydrolase activity, playing a role in lymphocyte activation and differentiation.

Target Information
CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein involved in activation, proliferation, and differentiation of lymphocytes, and in apoptosis of myeloid and lymphoid progenitor cells. It functions as a multi-catalytic ectoenzyme (ADP-ribosyl cyclase, cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase, NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) and as a receptor.
Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:
- Subtyping lymphomas and leukemias
- Detecting plasma cells (e.g., myelomas)
- Identifying activated B and T cells
CD38 participates in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and calcium signaling. It is highly expressed in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. Dysregulation is associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter’s Syndrome.
