The Human IFN beta Simplex ProcartaPlex Kit measures IFN beta protein and can be combined with other Simplex kits to create a custom multiplex panel utilizing Luminex xMAP technology for protein detection and quantitation. When combining multiple Simplex kits (not using a pre-configured Multiplex Panel), only one buffer kit (sold separately) is required per assay plate regardless of plex size.

About ProcartaPlex Assays for the Luminex Platform

ProcartaPlex immunoassays are based on the principles of a sandwich ELISA, using two highly specific antibodies that bind to different epitopes of a single protein to quantify multiple protein targets simultaneously using a Luminex instrument. These multiplex assays require as little as 25 μL of plasma or serum, or 50 μL of cell culture supernatant, and deliver analyzed results in approximately four hours.

ProcartaPlex assays utilize Luminex xMAP (multianalyte profiling) technology to detect and quantify up to 80 protein targets in a single sample from plasma, serum, cell culture supernatants, and other biological fluids.

The Luminex beads in the ProcartaPlex assay are internally dyed with precise proportions of red and infrared fluorophores to create spectrally unique signatures identifiable by Luminex detection systems (e.g., Luminex 200, FLEXMAP 3D, MAGPIX). Similar to a sandwich ELISA, matched antibody pairs identify the target protein. Each bead is labeled with antibodies specific for a single protein, and bound proteins are detected with biotinylated antibodies and streptavidin–R-phycoerythrin (RPE). This allows analysis of multiple targets in a single well.

Unlike ELISA, the capture antibody in the ProcartaPlex assay is conjugated to a bead rather than adsorbed to a microplate well, allowing reagents to remain free-floating in solution. The Luminex 200 instrument uses two lasers—one to distinguish bead signatures and another to quantify RPE fluorescence proportional to protein concentration. ProcartaPlex assays enable profiling of more target proteins using less sample in the same time as a traditional sandwich ELISA.

ProcartaPlex multiplex panels are available in multiple formats across six species (human, mouse, rat, nonhuman primate, porcine, and canine).
