Target Information
Chromosome 8 encodes about 800 genes across nearly 146 million bases. Translocations involving chromosome 8 and c-Myc amplifications are linked to certain leukemias and lymphomas with poor prognosis. Regions of chromosome 8 are associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and several congenital syndromes including Warkany syndrome 2 (trisomy 8), Pfeiffer syndrome, congenital hypothyroidism, and Waardenburg syndrome. The WRN gene on chromosome 8 encodes a DNA helicase implicated in Werner syndrome, an early aging disorder.
