Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins form part of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex, which functions in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are divided into three classes:

1. Fbws – containing WD-40 domains
2. Fbls – containing leucine-rich repeats
3. Fbxs – containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs

The encoded protein belongs to the Fbxs class and contains an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, and mice deficient in this gene resist atrophy, making it a potential drug target for muscle atrophy treatment. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
