Target Information

A cluster of genes, BAT1–BAT5, has been localized near the genes for TNF alpha and TNF beta. This gene is mapped close to the C2 gene within a 120-kb region that includes an HSP70 gene pair. These genes are part of the human major histocompatibility complex class III region. Initially thought to be two separate genes (NG36 and G9a), later research confirmed it as a single gene. The encoded protein is involved in intracellular protein-protein interactions. There are three alternatively spliced transcript variants, of which two are fully described.
