Target Information
NCF2, NCF1, and a membrane-bound cytochrome b558 are required for activation of the latent NADPH oxidase, which is necessary for superoxide production.
Defects in NCF2 cause chronic granulomatous disease, autosomal recessive cytochrome-b-positive type 2 (CGD2).
This genetically heterogeneous disorder leads to impaired microbial killing by neutrophils and phagocytes, resulting in life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections.
