Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The type of growth factor bound determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer with PDGFRB. Studies in knockout mice show that PDGFRA plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective kidney phenotypes.
