Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family, which are mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The specific growth factor bound determines whether the receptor functions as a homodimer or heterodimer (alpha and beta subunits). Knockout mouse studies indicate PDGFRA’s critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice show defective kidney phenotypes.
