Target Information
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) stimulate proliferation of mesenchymal, epithelial, and neuroectodermal cells.
FGF3 belongs to the heparin-binding growth factor family, which includes:
- Acidic FGF (FGF1)
- Basic FGF (FGF2)
- FGF3 (Int2)
- FGF4 (hst, Kaposi FGF)
FGF4 was first identified as an oncoprotein in Kaposi’s sarcoma cells. Other family members include FGF5–FGF10.
FGF3 is activated by proviral insertion of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and is associated with breast malignancies.
