Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII) is a member of a multigene family encoding carbonic anhydrase isozymes, which are metalloenzymes catalyzing the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. CA3 expression is tissue-specific, highly expressed in skeletal muscle and lower in cardiac and smooth muscle. Elevated CA3 levels are observed in some carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The CA3 gene spans 10.3 kb and contains seven exons and six introns.
