FBXO21 유전자는 약 40개의 아미노산으로 구성된 F-box 모티프를 특징으로 하는 F-box 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. F-box 단백질은 SKP1-cullin-F-box (SCF) 복합체의 서브유닛으로 작용하며, 인산화 의존적 유비퀴틴화 과정에 관여합니다.
F-box 단백질은 구조적 특성에 따라 다음 세 가지 클래스로 분류됩니다:
- Fbws: WD-40 도메인을 포함
- Fbls: Leucine-rich repeats 포함
