Target Information
MCL1 (Myeloid cell leukemia-1) belongs to the Bcl-2 family and is involved in differentiation and maintenance of cell viability. Isoform 1 inhibits apoptosis, while isoform 2 promotes it. MCL1 expression increases upon DNA damage and is associated with mitochondria. It promotes cell viability under apoptotic conditions, possibly by neutralizing pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members such as Bim or Bak. MCL1 is essential for embryogenesis and lymphocyte development, existing in two isoforms: MCL1L and MCL1S. Overexpression of MCL1S promotes cell death.
