Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine specifically induced by apoptosis, involved in the regulation of angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. Its release sensitizes tumor-associated vasculature to tumor necrosis factor. The precursor protein corresponds to the p43 subunit associated with the multi-tRNA synthetase complex and modulates aminoacylation activity of tRNA synthetase in normal cells. After proteolytic cleavage in tumor cells, it stimulates inflammatory responses. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and a pseudogene exists on chromosome 20.
