Target Information
C/EBP alpha regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It binds DNA using a bipartite structural motif, forming dimers through amphipathic alpha helices (leucine zipper). The basic polypeptide regions form DNA contact surfaces. C/EBP alpha functions mainly in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Other family members—C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon—share similar DNA-binding specificities and can form heterodimers with C/EBP alpha.
