Target Information
MRE11 (double-strand break repair protein MRE11) is a component of the MRN complex. This complex plays a central role in double-strand break repair, DNA recombination, maintenance of telomere integrity, and meiosis. The complex possesses single-stranded endonuclease activity and double-strand-specific 3′–5′ exonuclease activity provided by MRE11. RAD50 binds DNA ends and holds them in close proximity. Mutations in the MRE11 gene may result in ataxia-telangiectasia-like disorder 1.
