Target Information
RYBP is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex, which maintains the transcriptionally repressive state of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development. The PcG PRC1-like complex acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A (Lys-119), leading to heritable changes in chromatin expressibility.
It is involved in X chromosome inactivation in females and may stimulate histone H2A ubiquitination by recruiting the complex to target sites. RYBP inhibits ubiquitination and degradation of TP53, thereby regulating transcription of TP53 target genes, and may also influence proteasomal degradation of other proteins such as FANK1, contributing to apoptosis regulation. It may act as a transcriptional repressor and play a role in suppression of tumor growth and metastasis in breast cancer by down-regulating SRRM3.
