Target Information

This gene contains long CAG trinucleotide repeats coding consecutive glutamine residues. The gene product may function as a transcription factor, potentially involved in neurodevelopment or neuroplasticity regulation. The protein appears to bind and regulate promoters of MMP1, MMP3, MMP7, and COL1A1. Mouse studies suggest that nuclear matrix transcription factors (NP/NMP4) may participate in a mechanical pathway coupling cell construction and extracellular matrix remodeling. Multiple transcript variants encoding several isoforms have been identified.
