Target Information
The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes contains several diverse classes of proteases. The cysteine protease class comprises cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O. The aspartyl protease class includes cathepsins D and E, while cathepsin G belongs to the serine protease class. Most cathepsins are lysosomal and participate in various cellular processes such as peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation. The propeptide region of cathepsin H is highly homologous to other cathepsins and is believed to play a role in cysteine protease processing. Cathepsin H is implicated in several pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative disorders and cancer.
