Target Information

Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are enzymes that remove phosphate groups from phosphorylated tyrosine residues on proteins. Together with tyrosine kinases, PTPs regulate the phosphorylation state of signaling molecules such as the MAP kinase family.
Dual specificity phosphatases (DSPs), a subclass of PTPs, can dephosphorylate phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine residues. The prototypical DSP, VH1 from vaccinia virus, exhibits a shallow active site pocket allowing hydrolysis of phosphorylated serine, threonine, or tyrosine residues, unlike the deeper active site of typical PTPs that restrict substrate specificity to phosphotyrosine.
