Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It is involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis through recognition and uptake of ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen on platelets and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in CD36 cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist. Diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
