Target Information
SIRT3 is a member of the sirtuin family of proteins, homologs to the yeast Sir2 protein. Members of this family share a sirtuin core domain and are grouped into four classes. While the functions of human sirtuins are not fully determined, yeast sirtuin proteins are known to regulate epigenetic gene silencing and suppress recombination of rDNA. Studies suggest that human sirtuins may function as intracellular regulatory proteins with mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase activity. SIRT3 belongs to class I of the sirtuin family.
