Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins, which includes the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies, exhibit 30–60% homology with Ras p21. Rab proteins play critical roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport. They are involved in the movement of carrier vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi stacks and secretory vesicles. In yeast, the SEC4 protein, which shares 40% homology with Rab proteins, is associated with secretory vesicles, suggesting Rab proteins may also direct exocytosis to the plasma membrane.
