Target Information
Accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis requires proper kinetochore assembly at the centromere of each chromatid. The kinetochore includes the multisubunit CENP-H/I complex, which can be divided into three functional classes based on phenotype analysis. One of these classes, the CENP-O class, includes CENPO, which forms a stable complex required for kinetochore function and recovery from mitotic spindle damage.
CENPO has also been identified as an auto-antigen in a small population of anti-centromere antibody (ACA) positive patients with scleroderma.
