Target Information
Growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR) is a G-protein coupled receptor involved in energy homeostasis and body weight regulation. Two transcript variants are expressed across multiple tissues and conserved among species.
- Isoform 1a encodes the functional receptor for Ghrelin, defining a neuroendocrine pathway for growth hormone release.
- Isoform 1b retains an intron and does not function as a receptor but may attenuate 1a activity.
Mutations in the GHSR gene can lead to isolated partial growth hormone deficiency.
