Target Information
Angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) is a secreted ligand for Tie-2, a receptor tyrosine kinase expressed in endothelial and hemopoietic cells. Ang-1 acts as an angiogenic factor mediating blood vessel maturation and endothelial development.
Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) functions as a natural antagonist of Ang-1. In adult tissues, Ang-2 expression is localized to sites of vascular remodeling.
Angiopoietin-3 (Ang-3) and Angiopoietin-4 (Ang-4) are mouse and human counterparts of the same gene locus, showing structural divergence and distinct functions. Ang-3 generally acts as an antagonist, while Ang-4 functions as an agonist. Both share major structural features with Ang-1 and Ang-2, including the signal peptide, N-terminal region, coiled-coil segment, and fibrinogen-like domain.
