Target Information
Connexin family proteins form hexameric complexes (connexons) that enable intercellular communication via gap junctions. Each connexin protein has four transmembrane α-helical domains, two extracellular loops, and cytoplasmic N- and C-termini. Connexin 31.1 (Cx31.1, Gap junction beta-5 protein) is a 271 amino acid protein mainly expressed in skin and testis. It is essential for normal placental development in mice, and its down-regulation is associated with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC), suggesting potential therapeutic relevance.
