Product Specific Information

The HM48-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD48 antigen, also known as BCM1, Blast-1 (human), and OX-45 (rat).
CD48 is a 45 kDa GPI-linked glycoprotein expressed on most hematopoietic cells and is part of the SLAM and Ig superfamilies.
It plays a critical role in adhesion and T cell activation.

• Function: Modulates CD48 functions in vitro and in vivo, including blocking CD48/CD2 and CD48/CD244 interactions.
• Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
• Applications Tested: ≤0.25 µg/test for mouse splenocytes (100 µL final volume).
• Fluorophore Characteristics: eFluor® 450 (alternative to Pacific Blue®), Excitation 405 nm / Emission 445 nm, Violet Laser compatible.
• Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

CD48 (Blast-1) belongs to the CD2 subset of the Ig superfamily, including CD2, CD58, CD84, CD150, CD229, and CD244.
It is a GPI-anchored protein broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells and serves as a high-affinity ligand for 2B4 and low-affinity ligand for CD2.
The 2B4-CD48 interaction regulates NK and NK-T cell proliferation and eosinophil activation.
CD48 is strongly expressed on lymphocytes and monocytes, weakly on granulocytes, and absent on platelets, fibroblasts, epithelium, and endothelium.
It is also a marker for detecting GPI anchoring defects in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).
Potential pharmacological target for allergic airway diseases such as rhinitis and asthma.
