Target Information

DDR1 is a receptor tyrosine kinase activated by collagen and is reported to regulate adhesion, cell migration, and other cellular processes. Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) play a key role in cell communication with their microenvironment, regulating growth, differentiation, and metabolism. The DDR1 protein is widely expressed in normal and transformed epithelial cells and activated by various types of collagen (types I–VI). It belongs to a subfamily of tyrosine kinase receptors with homology to the Dictyostelium discoideum discoidin I protein in their extracellular domain. Expression is primarily in epithelial cells of the kidney, lung, gastrointestinal tract, and brain, and is overexpressed in several human tumors including breast, ovarian, esophageal, and pediatric brain cancers. The gene is located on chromosome 6p21.3 near several HLA class I genes, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
