Target Information

Oncogene ERBB4 (HER4) is a member of the type I receptor protein tyrosine kinase subfamily, which includes EGFR, ERBB2, and ERBB3. ERBB4 binds and is activated by neuregulins and other ligands, inducing various cellular responses such as mitogenesis and differentiation. It mediates signal transduction related to cell metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.

ERBB4 is predominantly expressed in several breast carcinoma cell lines and in normal tissues such as skeletal muscle, heart, pituitary, brain, and cerebellum. High expression levels are observed in breast tumor cell lines T47-D, MDA-MB-453, BT-474, and H3396, while lower or absent expression is seen in MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-157, MDA-MB-468, and SKBR-3. Elevated ERBB4 levels in certain tumor cell lines suggest a potential role in malignancy.
