Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They participate in processes involving RNA secondary structure alterations such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome/spliceosome assembly.
Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth/division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein, homologous to fission yeast Prp8, involved in cell cycle progression. It is mapped to chromosome 6p21.3 within the MHC region, associated with various malignant, genetic, and autoimmune diseases.
Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
