Target Information
Members of the Frizzled family encode seven-transmembrane domain proteins that act as receptors for the Wingless-type MMTV integration site family of signaling proteins. Most frizzled receptors are coupled to the beta-catenin canonical signaling pathway.
Frizzled 8 is highly expressed in certain human cancer cell lines, suggesting a role in cancer-related pathways. Expression has been reported in brain, heart, kidney, pancreas, and skeletal muscle. ESTs have been isolated from various tissues and tumor libraries. The crystal structure of the extracellular cysteine-rich domain of a similar mouse protein has been determined.
