Target Information
The nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) transcription complex is essential for the expression of proteins that regulate immune responses. Four NFAT proteins—NFAT1 (NFATp or NFATc2), NFAT2 (NFATc or NFATc1), NFAT3, and NFAT4 (NFATx or NFATc3)—are encoded by separate genes and exist as multiple splice variants. These proteins share limited sequence similarity with the Dorsal/Rel/NFkB family of transcription factors. NFAT5, a related protein, differs from NFAT1–4 in lacking many Fos/Jun contact sites and shows calcineurin-independent subcellular localization.
