Target Information
HYOU1 belongs to the heat shock protein 70 family and plays an important role in protein folding and secretion in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Suppression of HYOU1 is associated with accelerated apoptosis, suggesting a cytoprotective role under hypoxic conditions. It is up-regulated in tumors, particularly breast tumors, and associated with tumor invasiveness. The protein has a housekeeping function in the cytosol and localizes to both ER and mitochondria through specific targeting sequences.
