Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPS12 gene encodes a component of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S12E family of ribosomal proteins, located in the cytoplasm. Increased expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal cancers compared to normal colonic mucosa. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
