CD147 is a 50–60 kDa glycoprotein with multiple glycosylated forms. It is a plasma membrane protein involved in spermatogenesis, embryo implantation, neural network formation, and tumor progression. As a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, CD147 is highly expressed in metabolically active cells, including lymphoblasts, inflammatory cells, brown adipocytes, and malignant tumor cells.

Functions:

• Facilitates cell surface expression of monocarboxylate transporter proteins and extracellular matrix metalloproteinases
• Regulates integrin functions
• Plays roles in cell development, activation, fetal development, and retinal function
